Rachel and I were supposed to go see it this past weekend, but couldn't make it, so we're planning on going during the week some time.
For those that have seen it, what'd you think?

I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's definitely worth seeing in 3D and I think I might go again.

3D is the biggest reason why we want to see it in theaters soon before its not out anymore. I hope we get to see it soon, there's so much hype surrounding it.

I want to see it again in 3D. With that said I think that's the main reason the movie is so hyped up is because of the graphics. They are definitely amazing but the storyline is just ok IMO. Star Wars did it better. Plus it gets really political towards the end... And the fight scenes were not as cool as other movies I've seen...

Yeah Avatar was awesome, gotta watch in 3d. I didn't even care to see the movie till a bunch of people at my work were talking about some of the 3d visuals. Glad I listened to em, cause it rocked!

Yeah, that's what everyone tells me. See it in 3D...Which is why I want to see it in theaters :)

Yeah, I heard it starts getting into the whole 'protect the planet' type of a thing. How much does it get into this?

HUGELY. And I didn't like the ending portion of the movie at all as it basically just trashed human beings and kinda set the tone that we as a species are worthless and just abuse things.
Watched half of it online last night before falling asleep. In the movies defense though, it was really late (Or I guess "early") and I was really tired.

AND you didn't watch it in 3D!!!!
Yeah, I didn't even know about the 3D until I read these posts today.

Honestly the 3D in Avatar is hands down the best use of 3D I've ever seen. Not simply how well the 3D is done, but it's not gimmicky or cheap when you're watching it. There's depth to everything that you're watching and the 3D isn't just for you to get things thrown at you (a la My Bloody Valentine) or for shits and giggles. It really adds to the experience. This is the first 3D movies I've truly enjoyed the 3D in and felt like it was worth it wearing the damn glasses.

What he said. Awesome visuals, good starting storyline and introductions, boring middle to end. Took to long at the end, too political, and I knew what would happen. So it was more waiting for the next parts than anticipating. End of the storyline was simply Pocahontas mixed with Ferngully.

Yes, but a new take on those, which is what makes it different. I can't think of to many movies that i just can't say, "Well hell, that's pretty much the same storyline as this other movie!" Unfortunately, in most cases, movies will have a same sort of generic storyline because they are all about some extraordinary thing, otherwise there would be no story worth telling. So, in most cases, the only thing to truly enjoy in a movie isn't so much a new storyline, but characters/graphics that are cool.

Eh, I agree with you about the 'overall' plot line of most movies, but they are hardly ever so closely aligned or exact, and/or have interesting twists. Avatar had bad guy humans (same as both ferngully and 'disney' Pocahontas) and good guy 'indians'. The aliens in avatar ARE Native Americans. They were one dimensional and almost exactly the same, excepting their mounts were different. All three movies I mentioned had a man going 'native' and trying to stop the destruction of the native beings/species.
Now, your point would be things like, even The Matrix follows a similar concept, or how Star Wars is a simple story of good vs. evil, but my point is in the way the story is presented. I enjoyed the first hour to hour and a half of Avatar story wise, and then it became abundantly clear what was going to happen and the storyline didn't deviate at all. Whereas movies like Star Wars or the Matrix has stories that have been done before to a certain extent, they also have side stories, twists, specific side story lines for other characters, etc.

Not to mention no other movie has come close to the battle scenes in Star Wars in terms of sheer epic-ness. Those space battles are unbelievable! Is there anything more intense than the Death Star run!?!?! I feel like Avatar's a decent movie, but not the greatest fo' sho'. I am going to try and see it again in 3D as the CGI was superb but other than that I feel like it's just decent. Also the main character did a good job of acting IMO, espeically the voice overs.
Hmm. I'm sure I'll still enjoy the movie overall, but I know I'll go into it a bit jaded. Not that I'm against trying to be environmentally friendly, but I always dislike it when humans are set as 'bad guys' because they're cutting down trees.

So I finally saw Avatar last night. It was much better than I expected. Even though it was almost exactly like the movie Ferngully, it was still really good and really well done. The 3D was awesome, just a few parts that seemed kind of blurry. Definitely a great movie though, despite a few faults.

Avatar is so good, and this is one of the most fantastic movie. The 3D technology and computer graphics make this very realistic in almost every way. It is a colourful and beautiful fantasy-land come to life. As a visual experience it is very powerful and impacting. I am glad that I had a chance to see it.
yay its awsome I loved the graphics and its one of my favorit movies
